Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSE Reporting to the Manager Athletics Administration, the Athletics External Engagement Specialist is responsible for planning, creating, implementing and managing various athletic department initiatives and projects to create departmental affinity with the athletics brand, increase loyalty, generate revenue and support from athletic fans and sponsorships. This position is part of Wayne State University (WSU) Athletics outreach and external engagement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSGenerate corporate revenue by prospecting and cultivating corporate partnerships and by identifying sellable inventory and sponsorship packages. Develop and implement marketing initiatives and lead projects that: raise awareness of WSU Athletics; engage public to support athletics; improve fan outreach efforts; and increase fan participation and ticket sales. Solicit and engage volunteers, alumni, students and community through digital media campaigns and events.Collaborate with administrative and coaching staff to increase fan support by engaging them in a meaningful way with the athletic department. Coordinate and/or assist with various athletics special events, including fundraisers involving corporate sponsors, throughout the year.Assist in game day promotions, represent WSU Athletics at various events and assist in sponsorship fulfillment. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, business relations or related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience: One to three years' experience in marketing, public relations or related field; experience in higher education preferred.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures as well as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations/compliance.Knowledge and understanding of the athletic environment and its nuances. COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel. LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects. This position requires a high level of commitment and enthusiasm. Extended hours as needed including evenings and weekends are required.
