Plan and carryout the College of Engineering’s ongoing program of corporate and foundation engagement, which includes: building research partnerships, soliciting gifts and grants from corporations, corporate foundations and private foundations, discovering licensing opportunities, coordinating speaking engagements and advisory board participation, and enabling employment opportunities for students, in line with the College’s mission, goals and objectives.
Manage and support the growth of the College of Engineering’s Corporate and Foundation Relations efforts. In addition, the Director supports budgeting, managing expenses, planning, scheduling, and procedural changes to enhance effectiveness and efficiency. This role will:
- Manage planning and hosting of corporate and foundation visits to campus.
- Manage resource generation efforts for both research and academic programs from corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations.
- Facilitate sponsored research and grant opportunities, including proposal generation and review, tracking, and on-going stewardship activities.
- Solicit and close gifts for College priorities.
- Manage research contract and gift agreement review and processing.
- Manage corporate and foundation stewardship efforts.
- Manage corporate and foundation scholarship and fellowship efforts.
- Manage corporate and foundation relations marketing and communications initiatives.
- Manage maintenance of the College’s corporate and foundation relations website(s).
- Work closely with the internal partner organizations at the College such as the: Engineering Career Resource Center and the Office of Advancement, and cross-campus collaborators, like the Office of Technology Transfer, Innovation Partnerships, Medical School Business Development, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and the Office of University Development.
- Maintain knowledge of College faculty and research interests, capabilities and activities.
- Maintain knowledge of current technology, research, and recruiting needs of industry.
- Maintain visibility with cross-campus partners that may also have regular contact with the companies and foundations in the managed portfolio.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of College of Engineering start-up companies.
- A Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in engineering, the sciences, or business).
- A minimum of five years of corporate work experience or equivalent.
- Considerable experience in business development, sales and/or marketing.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to travel within the United States, with potential for international travel.
- Flexibility to meet changing priorities.
- Fluency with computer software (spreadsheet, word processing, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of the law (especially relating to intellectual property).
- A Graduate degree (preferably in engineering or the sciences).
